Body Shop Ethical Campaign Posters
Found here. A series of posters to emphasise The Body Shop's ethical direction using their products to represent other issues that they help to deal with.
I think this is really clever the way it's been done, using their own products to represent others.

Sustainable Soap Boxes?

Designed by Studio Plastac. This is quite a nice idea of sustainability in the way that the packaging is turned into something else rather than just thrown away. While it doesn't serve another purpose in it's second form, it is kept rather than just thrown away.

Christmas at Lush
This arrived in my inbox this morning, which is actually pretty handy to see a shop not unlike The Body Shop getting their Christmas spirit on. They haven't actually used the Lush logo at all in their Christmas branding which throws me off a little bit but Lush is an adjective as well as a brand name. and it just doesn't look like it belongs to the company. Also, they use a lot of bright colours in their design and I don't really think that the old style that they've used really fits in with their aesthetic.
This is a screencap of their Christmas range of gifts on the website. The side banner is more brightly coloured and looks a little bit more 'Lush' moreso than the image that I got in my email.

Babees Honey

I think that this piece of design kind of applies to several of the briefs that I'm working on so I thought I'd stick it up. I love this piece of design, designed by Ah&Oh Studio, it's so simple but I really like it. The hand drawn type is very whimsical, as is the colour scheme. The black bands on the jars represent the bee without there even needing to be a bee reference. I don't even like honey but I want it. It looks quite expensive and high quality. I also like the lack of information printed on the jar to keep it minimal.
Lyna Santos - The Body Shop

From here." The project was based on a brief for a student award the objective was to create an ad campaign to reinstate The Body Shop position as the original pioneer of ethical beauty through a series of print ads."
I really like this idea of taking the parts of the body that people can be very subconscious about and focusing on them to make them beautiful. Nothing says pure and simple like the skin in these images. It drives the concept of ethical beauty without even mentioning it at all.

Body Butter

Kelvin Farrell & Jason CartwrightThis is quite a nifty little idea for repackaging the Body Butter from The Body Shop. I don't know if this is the shape of the bottle that it used to come in, because it's now a flat round pot, or if this was their idea to reshape it. The Body Shop is all about watching their carbon footprint and doing their best to help the environment so the idea of packaging this in a muslin cloth which is used to wash hands after use is a great example of sustainable design.

My Body Shop products
So I've been shopping at The Body Shop, and why not? I love their products. They smell so good. but fragrances aside, let's look at the design. I really like the simple consistency that they have going across their range of products, the little slice of photograph along the bottom and the simple use of type on the bottles. Nothing is printed onto the bottles, but printed onto stickers and everything is 100% recycled and recyclable.
The little glass bottles at the front are perfume oils and they came with no packaging other than what they are, just the little name card tied around the neck with cotton thread. It's a very simplistic and effective range.

The Body Shop at Christmas
By putting 'The Body Shop at Christmas' into Google images, these are some of the results that I got back. I have some advertising, some products pop up. The Body Shop seem to be in favour of using this hand written type on their promotional material but not on the actual products, which is all upper case and sans serif. very clean and simple looking. I suppose they use the hand written type as a way of conveying casual, 'we are your friends' kind of attributes.
Their Christmas products usually seem to have little flourishes and look very indulgent and luxurious to match the fragrances they've had in the past, like apricot and cranberry and vanilla & nutmeg. They seem to use a lot of rich, darker colours.
